The NEED approach was developed with the intention to be potentially applicable to all health conditions. However, in view of the complexities related to research, development and care of rare diseases and the need for renewed or additional policy incentives, the NEED approach seeks to ensure inclusivity for such rare disease patients.
Therefore, this study aims to assess to what extent the NEED approach is applicable to rare diseases, and how evidence collected on rare diseases according to this approach could be used by decision-makers.
